Reverend Francis McPherson was the first African American optician in the
state of South Carolina and worked for Jackson Davenport.
He serviced customers by selling, fitting and making glasses.
He was also responsible for selecting and buying certain inventory
for the store. He became a part of the Davenport family,
so much so that you would find him on the front row seat of the family
weddings. Francis is also a minister with the AME Church.
